Battlezone was published in 1998, but remains a popular game Online, and also has a Single Player (offline) Campaign. Windows XP gave the game a stumble for a short time, until modders from another game (Call to Power II) solved that issue. As a result of that stumble, many players quit and never returned, but other players returned, and Battlezone still lives! Most any computer can play Battlezone, but there are some exceptions. We know that 3Dfx, Rendition, ATI Rage Pro, nVidia Riva 128, PowerVR, Permedia 2 are the old chipsets from 1998 that ran the game. Popular modern video card chipsets include ATI & nVidia, and possibly others that support DirectX. Battlezone CAN be played in software mode as well, although it isn't quite as spectacular that way.
STEP ONE: Download the (118MB) installer. Click here to go to the download page.
STEP TWO: After "BZinstall14L.zip" finishes downloading, you must Extract the Installer. A .zip file is a compressed archive. While WindowsXP has a feature called "'Zip Folders" my experience has shown that is not as reliable as using an archive program, such as WinZip®. If you do not have WinZip® you should get it (recommended) by clicking the WinZip® logo of your choice below to download it (free!).

Download WinZip 9.0 - Older Version but Smaller Download - (2.30MB) - Directly from me!

Download Winzip 11.1 - Large Download (8.95MB!) - You will be redirected to www.winzip.com.
STEP THREE: After you Extract the Installer, double-click on it to install the game. Our installer installs all game materials, patches, updates, and files for a smooth installation on Win98 or WinXP/2000.
You will continue clicking "Next" until you get to the Setup Type dialog, where you pick one choice:
- Windows 98 install (ONLY for Windows 98)
- Windows XP/2000 (default setup with BZ Club Sniper Scope)
- Custom Install Options (allows custom sound files, and to choose BZ Club Sniper Scope or not)
The last choice "options" is not hard to figure out, because there are tips with each checkbox pick.
After you have chosen your Setup Type, click Next to the final verification before the installer runs.
Click the final Next button, watch the installer's graph reach 100%, then click Finish.
Now Battlezone is installed!
STEP FOUR: If you do not have your original Battlezone cd-rom handy, you can run the game on a "virtual cd-rom drive" with an .iso file provided in your iso folder. Note that some Deathmatch games can be JOINED without a cdrom or .iso set up. Just ask someone to make a "Colliseum" game, everyone loves that map! Any "stock 1.4" Deathmatch game can be JOINED the same way. Strategy matches, custom Deathmatch maps, and Single Player maps require a cdrom or .iso setup.

Programs such as Alcohol 120% and Virtual Drive Creator (freeware) reportedly work on Windows98 to run an .iso file as a Virtual CD Drive. If you have WindowsXP/2000, the Battlezone Installer has provided you with Disk-in-Disc® in your DiscInDisc folder. Rumor has it that Disk-In-Disc® will run on Windows98, but that has not been tested by this author.

(Please do not report the misspelling of that folder name.)
Along with an installer there is a text file with clear instructions. Once you get your .iso "mounted" properly, you will see an extra CD_Rom Drive in your "My Computer" window.
If you encounter game crashes refer to "Troubleshooting.doc", "Battlezone FAQ.doc", and "Render.cfg Guide.doc", which are located in your info folder.
