This page will explore some (not all) of the hover tanks in the game.

Tank, Light Tank, Fighter, Scout, Rocket Tank, Bomber, Turret, Howitzer, APC (armored personnel carrier), Minelayer, Scavenger, Tug & Walker.  These are the most common units that the National Space Defense Force (Americans) and the Cosmo Colonists Army (USSR) have at their disposal.  There are also Black Dog squadron (American) vehicles of the same variety.  Hover tanks use alien technology found in the bio-metal meteorites to fly about a foot above the ground. On my MAIN PAGE, you see a Black Dog Tank with a custom "skin".  It is the Young Guns mascot tank, with the mean red eyes, and crossed revolvers logo of the ~YG~ Clan, over a basic black paintjob.  A tank's "skin" is basically it's paintjob.  The shark-like grinning mouth on the tank is typical of most models.  The Tank in the picture is parked (unmanned), so it is not hovering.  Other features of all units the bio-metal technology brings is the "HUD", or Heads Up Display and the Weapon Reticule on the monitor.  The HUD consists of four sections.  First is the "Unit Types" Interface Menu in the upper left corner. It monitors what units are available to command, and by interacting with the menu system, the Commander (that is, the Player) is able to count and command the friendly units in the area.  Second is the bio-metal Scrap and the Pilots counter display, also in the upper left corner.  Third is the Three Dimensional Radar Compass / Map Display in the lower left corner.  This Display toggles between the two display types. The 3D Radar and Compass gives the Commander a sense of the terrain within the Radar's effective radius, and also shows the four common compass points as determined by any given planet's axis of rotation. The Map Display gives the Commander a overhead view of the entire sector (play area) and shows locations of friendly units and structures.  The fourth section is the Commander's Weapon Systems, Ammo Count & Hull Integrity displays in the lower right corner of the HUD.  The Weapon Reticule is always centered on-screen, but does float up and down to display the angled attitude of a tank as it aims higher or lower. Weapon Reticules are weapon specific to allow the Commander to quickly identify which weapon is in use without having to view the Weapons Systems Display during combat.

Grizzly Tank

Here is an NSDF Grizzly Tank (American), the main tank in Battlezone.  It appears as the player's vehicle in most single player missions.  It is armed with an AT-Stabber (anti-tank cannon), a Minigun, a MDM Mortar (manual detonation, can be triggered mid-air, or self-explodes on contact with another vehicle), and a seismic Thumper device.  A variant, the Stealth Tank is also popular as an online play tank, with an AT-Stabber, powerful MAG Cannon, and a radar jammer.

Czar Tank

Here is a CCA Czar Tank (USSR), the main unit of the Russians.  It has more armor and ammo capacity, but only comes armed with an AT-Stabber, Chaingun, and Thumper.  It can also be loaded with a Mortar weapon, if the player wishes to "buy" one separately (Strategy play) or find one (Deathmatch play) and install it.  Changing unit weapons with weapon powerups (which you drive into to install) is one of the fun and unique possibilities of Battlezone.

Bobcat Light Tank

Here is an NSDF Bobcat Light Tank.  It has less armor but slightly better speed and ammo capacity than a Grizzly.  It comes armed with an AT-Stabber, Hornet heat-seeking missile launcher, and a Solar Flare, which is a countermeasure to a heat seeking missile. Other versions, the Black Dog Bobcat replaces the Solar Flare with a Phantom VIR invisibility generator, and the Bobcat EX which is armed with a Minigun, TAG Cannon, and magnetic MITS Mine.

Stoli Light Tank

Here is a CCA Stoli Light Tank.  It also has less armor than the Czar, but better armor, and less ammo capacity than the Bobcat.  It comes armed with a TAG Cannon, which fires a homing device... if it hits you, a salvo of ten Tag missiles follows the homing device.  It also comes with a Sandbag Rocket, which has a slowing effect on the engine of any vehicle it hits.
